| Comprehensive Examination In M.Ed in Thesis Option In M.Ed In Health Promotion
CAPSTONE EXPERIENCES
Master of Education in Health Promotion students are allowed three choices to complete their program of study. One option is to complete the requirements for HED 750 Graduate Project in Health Promotion (guidelines are found elsewhere in this handbook). The second option is the completion of advisor approved 3 credits plus successfully passing the comprehensive exam. The third option is to write a thesis. Students must be enrolled in at least one graduate credit at the time of their graduation semester.
THESIS
The Thesis option in the M.Ed. in Health Promotion is a sophisticated event completed at the end of the student's course of study. It is expected that the student is able to demonstrate advanced research skills that allows for the completion of the requirements of this capstone event. Students writing a thesis must identify 4 faculty members for their committee - 3 from the health promotion faculty and one outside the program who represents the graduate college. Students select the thesis topic in concert with their thesis chair as well as securing input from the other members of their thesis committee.
If a student chooses the thesis option, the following program guidelines apply:
-
The Health Promotion Core requirements remain the same.
-
The Research Core credit requirements increase from 9 to 12 hours. EPY 702 and HCA 702 are required. Six hours from EPY 718, EPY 719, EPY 721, and EPY 722 must be selected with advisor approval.
-
The student must sign up for 6 hours of thesis course work.
The thesis option has two major completion components. The first is the written document that follows a standard 5-chapter, APA format. The second component is the oral presentation of the work using current electronic methodology(ies) for the visual and oral presentation. |
