Guidelines
Option 1 - Basic Research

A LITERATURE SEARCH of a contemporary topic / issue in Health Promotion that would conclude with a significant impact of some degree on the profession.
-
A RESEARCH PROJECT that would feature a hypothesis; a research design; data collection; statistical applications; data analysis; and reporting of results.

Other CREATIVE IDEAS that will not restrict the innovative skills of graduate students.
Guidelines for the Written Component
i.e. Research Project, Literature Search, Creative Idea, or Grant Proposal (if no grant guidelines are provided)

Abstract
This is a no more than three-quarter page summary of the work completed.

Introduction
This section identifies the need, rationale and / or purpose and provides insight into the selection of the topic area. This section should also describe, in detail, the methods used in collecting the information or the data.

Discovered Information
A summary, highlights, and listing of information, documented evidence, and valid conclusions obtained from journal sources related to the identified need of the topic using the American Psychological Association (APA) format. Depending upon the option chosen, this is sometimes referred to as a literature review section. If the research option is chosen, this section would also include findings.

Relevance to the field of Health Promotion
Limitations, discussion and recommendations as to the current and future value of the information obtained and discussed in section III.

Summary
Concluding remarks about what has been gained /learned from completing this option.
Guidelines for the Oral Presentation Component

Describe the need and importance of the topic.

Describe why a) the topic and b) the option were selected.

Describe what is needed to complete the graduate project. Specifically, discuss the procedures, methods, what was done, discovered, and the project's impact, or the health issue.

Discuss the conclusions about the information gained as a result of this option being completed as well as providing recommendations about the topic area for future consideration.

Summarize this experience in terms of it being a synthesis of your program of study.

Provide a single copy of your professional portfolio for committee review (optional).
NOTE:
Please plan on 60 minutes to present - this includes 30 minutes for questions. The time frame may be extended if more questioning is necessary. Visual aids for your presentation are required (e.g. PowerPoint, Keynote, or equivalent) - lecturing during the entire time is discouraged.
