Degree Requirements: Sequence of Graduate Course Work

The following table indicates the course sequence graduate students are encouraged to follow. While individualized advisor input is critical at each step and an individualized program of study created, the information cited below applies to all Master of Education in Health Promotion students:

  • The courses in tier one should be taken first, tier two second, etc.

  • Courses within the same tier can be taken concurrently.

  • Taking courses from different tiers during the same semester is discouraged and must have prior approval by the student's advisor.

  • If the candidate's background is judged to be "deficient" in the health education or health promotion area, selected course-work will be required for completion of the degree program (e.g. HED 427/627 Methods in Health Education may be required although not included in the degree program).

  • Depending on an individual student's verifiable experience / degree training, HED 427/627 and/or HED 700 must be taken before any other course work in the Health Promotion core, the research core, or a student's concentration is completed. Classes taken concurrently with HED 427/627 and/or HED 700 will be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Sample Semester Sequence for a Part-time Student

Overview: The following tables are offered as a guide, not as a definitive sequence of courses that a student must follow. (Each student should establish their sequence of courses with their advisor.) The tables are intended to provide one option for a person who has time/work restrictions regarding the courses that they are able to take.

Sequence Restrictions: The following are the restrictions for the sample course sequence:

  • Fall and Spring Semesters only

  • 6 hours maximum per semester
