Sample Job Titles

Master of Education in Health Promotion
Specific sample job titles are listed at the end of each concentration description. In general, however, individuals with graduate degrees in Health Promotion may seek employment in the following areas:

School Health Educators are employed by private and public schools, colleges, and university. NOTE: The Health Promotion degree does not automatically lead to state Health Education teaching licensure.

Governmental Agencies at the local, county, state, national and international levels within their respective health units (e.g. HIV/AIDS, nutrition, fitness, drug education, chronic diseases, violence prevention, safety education, etc.).

Volunteer Agencies such as the American Hearth Association, the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association, the American Red Cross, etc. as health promotion specialists.

Employee Health Promotion Programs that include education and prevention strategies designed to reduce the risk of morbidity and mortality oat the worksite.

Clinical Health Promotion opportunities at hospitals and clinics to include such activities as diabetes education, cardiac rehabilitation, HMO lifestyle education, etc.

Commercial opportunities for health and wellness activities at health spas, wellness centers, retirement centers, fitness clubs, diet/weight control programs, etc.

This orientation, however, does not minimize the possibility of other options. For example, this masters level program creates a solid foundation for doctoral work at any university across the county that offers doctorates in health related fields (e.g. public health, health education, education, or behavioral sciences).

A student also will be able to take and should successfully pass the national certification exam in health education which will enhance their candidacy as a:

  • University student wellness educator

  • Health promotion specialist

  • Managed care health promotion director

In other similar degree programs across the country, individuals with the following titles are Health Promotion graduate degree program students:

  • Health Officers

  • Epidemiologists

  • Public Health Dentists

  • School Nurses

  • Environmental Technicians

  • Mental Health Counselors

  • Community Nutritionists

  • Industrial Hygienists

  • Elementary School Teachers

  • Secondary School Teachers

  • Public Health Physicians
